Bloggin’ with Bully: A Fantastic First Weekend

Feb. 13, 2013

Well I couldn’t think of a better way to start our season! As of today with a weekend of play under our belts your FSU softball team is undefeated. I will admit at first we were all a little nervous the first couple of games simply because it was the start of a new season. Well… all of us except for maybe T-Brown who went 4 for 4 in our season opener against FAMU, either she wasn’t nervous or nerves just work in her favor! By Sunday the butterflies had flown from our bellies and our bats came alive. We beat Bethune-Cookman University 20-0. Once we scored 15 in the first inning I was crossing my fingers for 20 runs.

We were so close to getting 20 hits coming up short by one. Another great point or points about our game against Bethune-Cookman would definitely have to be our freshmen coming out strong with rookies like Victoria East getting her first start, Macey Cheatham with a rip through the infield, and Kat Allen with a triple. It was an awesome way for them to start their careers at FSU softball.

Our game against Jacksonville University didn’t start out as eventful as BCU however when the 5th inning came around everyone’s bats came alive. We hit all the way around the lineup ending with Brianna Hamilton’s walk-off home run to end the game early due to run rule. I can definitely say that we were simply having fun by the time Sunday rolled around and we are so excited to continue this high going into this weekend. Unfortunately as our great weekend rolled our rain rolled in. We had planned on facing Troy Tuesday at 6:00 but the weather had other plans for us so there will be a makeup game on Thursday February 28 at 6 p.m. at JoAnne Graf Field.

This week we are preparing for another home tournament. We are playing Tulsa, Arkansas, and Hofstra. We are excited about the competition coming into Tally and can’t wait to keep our hitting high going.

I saved the best point for last, one of the most awesome things I saw this weekend was the amount of support we had in the stands. I was happy to have that reaction on multiple accounts this weekend. Thank you to all who came out and supported and to all who supported from afar.

Next time I will be checking in with y’all we will be on our way to California!!!
