TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Ayla Bonniwell and freshman Joshua Davidson were selected as the ACC Divers of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.
“These two have been doing a great job,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Both Ayla and Josh come to practice and just get to work. All of our kids have been working their tails off and it’s really paying off here in the early part of the season.”
Bonniwell was tabbed as the ACC Co-Diver of the Week along with Miami’s Wally Leyland.
The Ithaca, N.Y. native won both 1-meter and 3-meter in the tri-meet against two of the top diving schools in the conference, No. 20 Duke and Virginia Tech. She first edged out the ACC defending champion, Ashlynn Peters on Friday with a score of 320.35 before winning 1-meter by just over 13 points on Saturday with a score of 284.40.
This was Bonniwell’s second weekly honor of the season and third for her career.
Davidson earns his first recognition after winning 1-meter against Duke and No. 19 Virginia Tech with a score of 342.00. The Tomball, Texas native held off a pair of Duke divers and sophomore Cameron Thatcher for the victory. Davidson helped No. 20 FSU knock off Duke in Durham over the weekend, 208-145.
