Bowden Sees A Better FSU Team This Thursday As Compared To Last Week

Sept. 25, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – For seven members of the Seminole football team, Saturday’s game in Jacksonville will be a homecoming but with three games played in Jacksonville since 2005, it is not a new experience for most of this group. Last year FSU downed Alabama and three years ago the Seminoles won the ACC Championship and the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Florida State has scored at least 21 points in every game played in Jacksonville since 1982 and will hope to get the offense restarted following the three point showing versus Wake Forest.

Head Coach Bobby Bowden

On the offense this week:

“You hope every week that they pick it up a little bit. We have run down the list of reasons why they didn’t do well last game. I hope that we have worked on that this week.”

What would be the indicator that we have not worked on things:

“You would have had a bad feeling. They seem to know what they are doing a little bit more today.”

Possible starters for the game:

“I’m not sure on Dakota. There are times that we put him on the first team. Caz Piurowski is starting. Neefy Moffett was also in at the first team.”

If there is a difference with Christian Ponder:

“I would expect to see improvement every week. That is what we are asking for. I thought he did better today.”

About the last game:

“We did some pretty good things but they don’t overcome mistakes. We just got to protect that ball better.”

Quarterback Christian Ponder:

O how the offense practiced this week

“I think we did, I think we had a pretty good week. The tempo was definitely a lot quicker than usual. I think guys were coming out here motivated and ready to work hard and ready to forget what happened last week and turn this thing around.”

On if it’s easy to forget last week’s game

“It’s not easy but you’ve got to do it. I think when you come out here and work hard it helps. It helps to forget that. It helps that we got a good opponent coming up because we’ve got to focus on them and that helps push back what happened last week.”

On how today’s practice compared to last Thursday’s practice

“I think last Thursday there was a lot of missed assignments and a lack of focus. I think guys, after what happened last week, they realized what we had to do on Thursdays and so they changed it. I thought today was pretty good.”

On the importance of this game

“It’s pretty important. It’s got to show that we’re able to forget what happens and not let one game affect the next and make one game make us lose two. We’ve got to come out and then fight and play. The first few games we really showed how we can move this ball. We’ve really got to come back and gain a little confidence back in ourselves.”
