ATLANTA (Seminoles.com) – Florida State senior forward Cierra Bravard was named to the 2011-12 preseason “Wade Watch” list for the State Farm Wade Trophy, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Bravard, an honorable mention State Farm Coaches’ All-American in 2010-11, was one of 25 student-athletes from 17 institutions and seven conferences who appeared on the list for the prestigious award, regarded as “The Heisman of Women’s Basketball.”
The Sandusky, Ohio, native led the Seminoles in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg), while making a team-best 54.5 percent of her field goal attempts in 2010-11. She captured All-ACC First Team and All-Region 2 honors, and was named MVP at the 2010 Junkanoo Jam Tournament in the Bahamas.
She capped her junior campaign by scoring in double figures in the final 21 games and collected 10 double-doubles for the season.
The State Farm Wade Trophy, now in its 35th year, was named after the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lilly Margaret Wade. The award is given annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport and the WBCA.
A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.
The 2012 State Farm Wade Trophy winner will be announced during the WBCA National Convention, which will be held in conjunction with the 2012 NCAA Women’s Final Four in Denver.
Bravard was one of three representatives of the ACC on the list, joining Miami senior guards Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams.
