Brown’s Near Triple-Double Highlights 96-55 Win over Wake Forest

(AP) —Brittany Brown had 22 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and four steals and No. 11 Florida State cruised to its seventh-straight win, 96-55 over Wake Forest on Thursday night.Shakayla Thomas added 16 points and Ivey Slaughter and Maria Conde had 15 apiece for the Seminoles (17-4, 7-1 ACC), who hit 11 of 18 shots in the first quarter in racing to a 27-9 lead. It was a career-high for Conde, as were Brown’s 11 assists.

Shakayla Thomas added 16 points and Ivey Slaughter and Maria Conde had 15 apiece for the Seminoles (17-4, 7-1 ACC), who hit 11 of 18 shots in the first quarter in racing to a 27-9 lead. It was a career-high for Conde, as were Brown’s 11 assists.

The Demon Deacons (11-10, 2-6) outscored Florida State 24-21 in the second quarter but were outscored 48-22 in the second half.

Freshman Ariel Stephenson came off the bench for 20 points, one shy of her career high, and Elisa Penna scored 10 for Wake Forest.

Florida State shot 54 percent (37 of 69) and outrebounded the Demon Deacons 39-19. The Seminoles also turned 30 Wake Forest turnovers into 33 points.

POST-GAME NOTES COMPILED BY FSU SPORTS INFORMATION:

·         Junior guard Brittany Brown produced some career highs in tonight’s game: Besides her 22 points and nine rebounds, she had a career-high 11 assists as well as eight made free throws.

·         Freshman guard Maria Conde produced a career-best 15 points (5-of-7), including 12 points in the second half in what was her best performance of the season.

·         Brittany Brown’s 22-point performance is FSU’s 13th 20-point game this year, including Brown’s second of the season.

·         Junior forward Ivey Slaughter added 15 points and tied her season high with seven made field goals. She also posted a career-best six steals.

·         Sophomore forward Shakayla Thomas finished with 16 points, her 19thdouble-figure game this season. Thomas went 8-of-14 from the floor and added seven rebounds.

·         Florida State’s 96 points are its season high in ACC play.

·         FSU out-rebounded Wake Forest 39-19, making it 11 games this season where it has out-rebounded its competition by 15 or more.

·         The Seminoles have now forced 13 of their 21 opponents into 20+ turnovers this season after forcing a season-most 30 by Wake Forest.

·         Florida State’s win gives it a seven-game win streak in ACC play, just the third time FSU has reached such a streak vs. ACC competition.

·         FSU improves to 10-11 on the road against Wake Forest all-time.

·         The victory over the Demon Deacons improves FSU’s ACC road record this season to 4-1. Over the last seven seasons, FSU is 40-19 in ACC road games.

·         Over the last seven seasons, FSU is 80-36 (.690) in ACC play.

·         FSU’s 96-55 win over Wake Forest is the second-largest victory by the Seminoles in series history.

·         The Seminoles held a 48-33 lead at halftime vs. Wake Forest. The 48 points are their most scored at the half in ACC play this season.

·         At halftime, Brittany Brown led FSU in six categories: points (13), rebounds (5), assists (5), free throws (7), free throws attempted (8) and steals (3).
