Brummett Continues To Lead Seminole Women’s Golf Team At Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. –
Florida State University senior Whitney Brummett is in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings and the Florida State women’s golf team is in 12th place after the first two rounds of the Bryan National Collegiate women’s golf tournament on the Bryan Park Players Course. Brummett has a two-round total of 147 and will begin play in the final round looking to earn her second career top-five individual finish.

No. 1 Duke holds a one-stroke lead over Florida in the team standings after two rounds of play. The Gators faltered on the final hole of the afternoon with two of their players earning bogeys while the Duke players earned three pars and only one bogey. Stacy Lewis of Arkansas, the defending NCAA Champion, holds a four stroke lead over Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst in the race for individual medalist honors.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) played her final nine holes of the afternoon at even par with two bogies, two birdies and five holes of par golf. She has carded 26 of her first 36 holes of the tournament at or below par and is only eight strokes off of the individual lead. Brummett’s best career finish of third place came at the fall 2006 Cougar Classic.

Junior All-American Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) carded a four-over par 76 and has a two-day total of 151. She is in a tie for 16th place in the individual standings. Westrup actually moved up seven places in the individual standings as compared to the first round despite losing one stroke from her score. She carded three birdies and eight holes of par golf on the afternoon.

Senior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) who is playing in her home state of North Carolina for the final time as a collegian carded a seven-over par score of 79 in the second round. She improved her score by seven strokes and her individual placement by 15 positions in the second round. Wright carded 12 holes at par in the second round as compared to 10 holes at par in the first round.

The third and final round of the event will be played on Sunday.
