Florida State University senior Whitney Brummett earned her first top-10 finish of the Spring 2008 season to lead the Seminole women’s golf team to a tied for 11th place finish in the team standings at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Players Course.
No. 5 ranked Florida overtook No. 1 Duke in the final round and defeated the Blue Devils by two strokes to claim the team championship. The Gators entered the final round one stroke behind the Blue Devils and rallied to win the team championship. Stacy Lewis of Arkansas, the defending NCAA Champion, claimed individual medalist honors with a one-stroke victory over Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst. The Lady Razorbacks finished in fourth place in the team standings.
Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) earned the best finish of her senior season with a 226 total for the three round event. She was a total of four strokes over par in the first two rounds and carded a 79 in Sunday’s final round of play. Brummett finished as the Seminoles’ leader for the first time since leading the Seminoles at the fall 2005 Lady Tar Heel Invitational.
Junior All-American Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) carded a 78 and finished in a tie for 17th place in the individual standings. Sophomore Lacey Agnew (Jonesboro, Ga.) played her best round of the event as she carded a six-over par 78 and finished with a 54-hole total of 243.
The Seminoles begin post-season play in the ACC Championship April 18-20 at the LPGA International Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
