TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State golfers Whitney Brummett, Caroline Westrup and Torstein Nevestad have been named to the All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s Golf teams as announced by the league office. It marked the second consecutive season Brummett and Westrup have been named to the women’s team and the first time Nevestad has earned the honor.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average or better for the spring semester and maintained a cumulative 3.0 average during his or her academic career.
The selections to the academic teams for the three players continued the outstanding overall year for both the men’s and women’s golf teams at Florida State. The men finished in a tie for 13th place at the NCAA Championship finals and were ranked 15th in the nation in the final GolfStat poll of the season under Head Coach Trey Jones. The women’s team participated in the NCAA Championship for the 14th time in the last 17 seasons and finished in third place in the ACC Championship under Head Coach Debbie Dillman.
Brummett and Westrup helped the Seminole women’s golf team finish the 2006-07 academic year as one of Florida State’s brightest teams. The team earned a combined GPA of 3.384 during the fall 2006 semester and a 3.340 GPA during the spring of 2007 for a cumulative GPA of 3.362. Brummett and Westrup were joined on the 2007 ACC Honor Roll by seniors Jaclyn Burch and Michelle Steakin, junior Ashley Kemp, sophomores Sara Young and Erica Gonzalez and freshman Jamie Kuhn.
Nevestad enjoyed a spectacular all-around senior season as he played in the Seminoles’ starting line up during their post season march in the NCAA Regional and Championship finals and earned Dean’s List Honors during the spring 2007 semester in the classroom. He earned better than a 3.0 GPA during the fall 2006 semester and better than a 3.5 GPA during the spring 2007 semester.
