Oct. 22, 2004

GREENVILLE, N.C. –
Florida State’s Jaclyn Burch and Whitney Brummett carded identical scores of 74 and are tied for 26th in the individual standings and the Seminoles are in 16th place in the team standings after the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course. At two-over par, both Burch and Brummett are only two strokes from moving into the top-10 in the individual standings. Florida State carded a team score of 306 – its’ second best team score of the fall season and only two strokes off its season-best score of 304 during the third round of the Cougar Fall Classic in September.

Furman sophomores Jenny Suh and Monique Gesualdi are tied for the individual lead after recording a pair of 69s in the first round to lead the Lady Paladins to an opening round one-under 287 and team lead in the 23-team event. Fourth ranked Georgia is in second after a 289 while No. 2 Auburn sits two strokes behind the Bulldogs.

Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) tied her season low score as she shot her third round of 74 in seven rounds this fall. She has now shot 74 or better nearly as many times this fall (three) as she did in 11 tournaments during 32 rounds as a freshman (five). Burch has led or been tied for the team lead each of the three times she has carded a 74 this fall. Her career best score is a 72 which came in the final round of the 2004 NCAA Championship. Burch entered the Lady Paladin as the Seminoles’ leading golfer with a 76.17 stroke average through the first two events of the fall season.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) continued to play well during her first season as a Seminole. Her score of 74 in Friday’s first round also marked the third time this season she has carded a score of 74 or better. She shot her career best score (and lowest single round score for the Seminole this season) of 72 during the second round of the Tar Heel Invitational earlier this month.

Junior Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) and freshman Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) carded identical scores of 79 over the first 18 holes. The score was Larsson’s second best first round score of the season and came in right on her season long average of 79.00. The score for Wright is tied for her third best of the fall season and marked the fourth time in seven rounds she had carded a 79 or better. She shaved nearly 1.5 strokes from her season average with her score in the first round. Junior Kristin Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) is also competing as a member of the Seminoles’ starting five for the third time this season.

The second round of the 23-team event begins Saturday morning at 8:20.
