Burkert, Jackson Set for National Team Tryouts

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Rising junior Brianne Burkert and incoming freshman Tiana Jackson will be competing at the 2017 U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts from March 3-5 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. “We have been fortunate to send players every year to the USA tryouts,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “We’ve had someone selected each summer to participate in one of the programs offered. I’m proud of how hard our players are working this spring and excited for Briana and Tiana to go workout with the best in the country this weekend.”

Burkert and Jackson are among a total of 243 athletes that will compete for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Teams programs along with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, which Jackson is eligible for.

The U.S. Collegiate National Team program will offer three options that include a Tour of Thailand (May 19-30), a Tour of Europe (July 5-16) and USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championship (June 22-July 1) in Minneapolis. Selections for the program will be made by the end of March.

Recent former FSU standouts Nicole Walch, Katie Mosher, Kiara Wright and Katie Horton have been selected over the past four years for several of the program the U.S. Collegiate National Team offers.

The tryout will be directed by U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly. Each session will be streamed live starting on March 3 at 2 p.m. MT.

Serving as a setter in a 6-2 system, Burkert led the team in 2016 with 771 assists (6.17 per set), adding 254 digs and 21 service aces.

Jackson arrived in Tallahassee in January of 2017 from O’Fallon, Mo. and will be a big factor at the net as a middle blocker in the fall.

The Seminoles are scheduled to head to Gainesville, Fla. to face Florida on March 22 before returning to face UCF at Santa Fe College on March 30 in their spring training session.
