TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A day after being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, junior Dylan Busby has been named the National Hitter of the Week, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
Busby had three home runs, two doubles and 10 RBI in four games, and became the first FSU player to have at least three RBI in five straight games. His hitting helped lead FSU to a series win over No. 4 Clemson, a win over Stetson and a split with rival Miami.
Against the Tigers on Monday, Busby’s three-run double gave FSU a 5-3 lead in a game the Seminoles eventually won 7-6 to take the series. On Wednesday against Stetson, Busby was 3-for-4 with three more RBI on two home runs. His multi-home run game was the first for Florida State this season.
In the Friday night opener at Miami, Busby was 3-for-5 with four RBI, three of which came on his third home run of the week. A ninth-inning double extended FSU’s lead to 6-3.
Along with the first two games of the Clemson series, Busby is the first player in FSU history to have at least three RBI in five straight games. His eight home runs are tied with Quincy Nieporte for the team lead, and his 31 career home runs lead active players in the ACC.
Busby is hitting .305 on the year after entering the Clemson series with a .270 average. The last Seminole to earn a weekly honor from the NCBWA was DJ Stewart in March 2015.
Florida’s Alex Faedo was named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
