TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State juniors Dylan Busby and Taylor Walls were named preseason All-Americans by Baseball America, the organization announced early Monday morning. The third-team honor is the fourth of the preseason for Walls, while Busby’s second-team nod is his third entering the year.
Busby, a first team pick of Collegiate Baseball and third team selection of College Sports Madness, is slotted to begin the season at first base. In 2016, Busby led the Seminoles with 14 home runs while hitting .323 and notching 55 runs batted in.
Walls, from Cordele, Ga., is a third team All-American from Baseball America. Walls was previously named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and College Sports Madness and a third teamer from Perfect Game. Walls, a member of Team USA’s Collegiate National Team over the summer, hit .355 with 27 extra base hits and 46 RBIs for the Seminoles in 2016. On the strength of a 45-to-59 strikeout-to-walk ratio, Walls reached base at a .479 clip on the season
Both Walls (24) and Busby (25) were ranked earlier this year by Baseball America among the Top 100 college draft prospects.
The 2017 season will begin with Fan Day on February 11 at Dick Howser Stadium. The players and coaches will be signing from 11-12:30 pm and the final scrimmage of the preseason, open to fans, will begin around 1:30 pm.
FSU’s season opener against VCU is the following Friday, February 17, at 4:00 pm at Dick Howser Stadium. Single game tickets will go on sale Monday, February 13.
