Butkus Candidate Kendyll Pope Named ACC Defensive Back of the Week

GREENSBORO, NC – Florida State weakside linebacker Kendyll Pope, a candidate for the Butkus Award, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week after recording a career-high 14 tackles (10 solo) and intercepting two passes in Saturday’s 48-24 win over Wake Forest. Pope, a sophomore from Ft. White, Fla., now leads the team with 43 total tackles. Both of Pope’s second quarter interceptions led to FSU touchdowns and helped the Seminoles open up a 42-14 halftime lead. He also added a third down stop, a fourth down stop and a tackle on a two-point conversion.


The other ACC Player of the Week selections were Woodrow Dantzler (offensive back) and Akil Smith (offensive line) of Clemson, E.J. Henderson (defensive line) of Maryland, John Stone (specialist) of Wake Forest, and Darian Durant (rookie) of North Carolina.
