TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After five matches and an exhibition game away from home, the No. 19 Florida State volleyball team will return to the friendly confines of Tully Gym this weekend to take on Miami and Notre Dame as part of the Seminole Tri-Tournament.
With clean sweeps of the New Mexico State Tournament and the FIU/Miami Invitational, the Seminoles (8-1) are riding a five-match winning streak and find themselves ranked No. 19 in the country in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Poll. Positioned at No. 19, FSU boasts its highest ranking since the 1993 season when the program earned a No. 17 slot in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Florida State has been on a roll since it nearly upset then-No. 5 Florida in Gainesville, Fla. on Aug. 31. After taking the Gators to match point, FSU defeated then-No. 8 Illinois and followed it up with victories over New Mexico State and then the Italian National Team in exhibition action.
The Seminoles took a trip south last weekend as they needed just 10 sets to defeat Middle Tennessee State, Florida International and Albany NY. FSU was paced in South Florida by a dominate performance by Stephanie Neville and her career-high 15 kills in the Albany NY match while seniors Brianna Barry and Mira Djuric were named to the FIU/Miami Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Friday, the ‘Noles will be tested by a Hurricanes squad that is 7-2 on the season and Sunday they play against a 5-3 Fighting Irish team that is led by reigning Big East Player of the Week Kristen Dealy. Both matches will air live on Seminoles.com.
