Carlton, Mendoza Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Drew Carlton and freshman Drew Mendoza were both named to the All-ACC Academic Team Thursday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced. Carlton earned the honor for the second time, while Mendoza is one of just five freshmen on the team.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students.

Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Carlton finished with a 2.17 earned run average (best among FSU relievers) and tallied five wins in the 2017 campaign. Mendoza hit 10 home runs after missing the first half of the season due to injuries, including two in the ACC Championship Game against No. 2 North Carolina and two in the College World Series, where he was named first baseman for the 2017 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Carlton was drafted in the 32nd Round of this year’s MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers and signed with the team earlier this week.
