TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State softball team started the 2018 season with an impressive 4-0 record on opening weekend and the Seminoles have the individual accolades to show for it with junior Carsyn Gordon earning ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
It is the second time that Gordon has received the weekly honor from the ACC, adding to her previous award won on March 28, 2017.
The first baseman from Miami, Fla., led Florida State and the ACC in seven categories with a .667 batting average (8-for-12), two doubles, a triple, two home runs, a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .750 on base percentage.
She opened the season with a perfect 3-for-3 performance from the plate against Portland State, driving in four runs and adding two doubles and a home run. In the pair of games against host school Texas State (which was the top team receiving votes that did not make the NFCA preseason Top 25), she batted .500 (4-for-8), including a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.
Florida State will host Florida A&M (1-2) on February 14 for its home opener at JoAnne Graf Field. The first pitch between the Seminoles and the Rattlers will be at 6:00 p.m., and admission is free for all fans.
