BLACKSBURG, Va. – Select members of the Florida State track and
field team traveled to Blacksburg, Virginia this weekend to participate in
the Pepsi Indoor Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech University. Senior
Tonya Carter led the way for the Lady Seminoles while Joseph Allen posted
an NCAA Provisional mark.
Carter finished first in the 60m dash with an NCAA Automatic
Qualifying mark of 7.30. She also added a second place effort in the 200m
competition. Senior Samantha George added a second place finish in the 800m
event with an NCAA Provisional time of 2:07.88. Chinette Johnson posted a
NCAA Provisional mark in the triple jump event to claim third place.
Several other Seminoles contributed by adding top five finishes.
Lindsay Adkins finished second in the pole vault competition with a
personal best mark of 11’05. Teresa Bundy placed fourth in the 60m dash
while Makiba Batten added a fifth place effort in the shot put competition.
LaKeisha Mose had an impressive outing with a fourth place finish in the
shot put and a fifth place mark in the weight throw.
Junior college transfer Allen paced the men’s team with two second
place finishes in the long jump and triple jump events. His 24’11.00 effort
in the long jump competition earned him an NCAA Provisional Qualifying
mark. Junior Jason Dean tied for first place in the pole vault event while
Iain Harnden finished fourth in the 60m hurdle competition. The men’s
4x400m posted an NCAA Provisional time with a third place finish.
The track and field team will travel to the Airforce Academy in
Colorado Springs, Colorado next Saturday, January 29.
