TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Freshman Florida State Men’s golfer Jake Carter put together an impressive first round at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Sunday, carding a 1-under 70 at the Los Cabos Querencia Golf Course.

Carter, an Aiken, S.C., native who is playing individually this weekend, is tied for 16th overall in the field. The Seminoles are tied for seventh at 4-over, as Carter’s strong score does not count toward the FSU total.

The freshman, who played his fourth round as a Seminole, registered five birdies on Sunday, including birdies in two of his first three holes played. He birdied three par 4’s and two par 5’s. His 70 is considered a career-best score.

Redshirt junior Harry Ellis and freshman Greyson Porter are each tied for 29thafter shooting even-par 71’s. Ellis put together three birdies that evened out his three bogeys, while Porter got off to a hot start by recording three birdies in his first four holes played. It was Porter’s fourth round played after he competed at the spring-opening Sea Best Invitational.

Redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler shot a 1-over 72, tying for his second-lowest round in what was his 13th career round played. Senior Josh Lee finished 3-over while Carlson went 4-over on the day.

Big 12 rivals Oklahoma State and Texas lead the field at 11-under apiece. ACC counterpart Wake Forest is third overall at 7-under, followed by Baylor and Georgia (3-under each) and Washington (2-under). FSU is tied with Ole Miss for seventh.

Florida State was among the best in the field in par 3 scoring, shooting 1-over on the day. It went 3-under on par 4 holes, but is looking to make up ground on the long par 5 holes, sitting last at 10-over.
