Castellanos And Kuikka Earn All-Region Accolades

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After helping the Seminoles reach the third round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, Deyna Castellanos and Natalia Kuikka were honored on Wednesday as United Soccer Coaches announced its All-Region Teams.

Castellanos earned All-East Region First Team accolades, while Kuikka was selected to the Second Team, marking the 15th consecutive season that multiple Seminole student-athletes have been recognized by United Soccer Coaches.

Castellanos had an outstanding offensive season for the Garnet and Gold this fall, leading the ACC and ranking second in the NCAA with 19 goals scored and adding three assists as well. The 19 goals ranks second in a single season in FSU history, the 41 points are tied for sixth-most by a Seminole and her six multi-goal games set a Florida State record.

The sophomore from Venezuela now has 26 goals scored in her young career, which sits 10th-most in Seminole history, and the most since Berglind Thorvaldsdottir scored 27 goals from 2012-15.

Kuikka adds the All-Region award to her 2017 All-ACC First Team honor, and was the foundation of the Seminole defense that recorded eight shutouts in her 17 games played this season. The junior was the team captain this season and also added a goal offensively against Samford on August 24.

Both Castellanos and Kuikka are eligible for the 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-American Awards that will be announced later this week.
