Cech, Lerew Earn All-America Honorable Mention Honors At NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship

AUSTIN, Texas –
Senior Christy Cech and sophomore Chelsie Lerew earned NCAA All-America honorable mention honors Thursday night at the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship in Austin, Texas. Cech, a 2001 All-America in the 50-free, won the 50-free consolation final with a season-best time of 22.72. Cech will compete in the 100-free on Saturday.


Lerew, a two-time ACC Most Valuable Diver, finished 14th on the one-meter in her first ever NCAA championship competition with a score of 257.60. Lerew will compete on Friday on the three-meter.


Freshman Tiffany Manning placed 27th on the one-meter with a score of 230.80. Manning will join Lerew tomorrow on the three-meter and will also compete on the platform on Saturday.


Sophomore Emma Dutton finished 56th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.72. Dutton still has two more events to compete in, as she will swim in the 100-yard breaststroke tomorrow and the 100-free on Saturday.
