TALLAHASEE, Fla. – Righthander Chris Chavez threw a complete-game no-hitter as he led No. 22 Florida State to a 13-0 victory over Charleston Southern in front of 951 fans at Dick Howser Stadium.

Chavez (2-2), who also struck out a career-high 11 batters in the win, threw Florida State’s first no-hitter since 1988. FSU’s last one was a 7-0 no-hitter by Jerry Nielsen over Baptist College.

Designated-hitter Kevin Cash led the Seminoles offensively with a 3-for-4 outing and a career-high five RBI. Cash belted a two-run home run, his third of the season, in the third inning.

Catcher Jeremy Salazar belted a pair of RBI-doubles in the first and fourth innings, while leftfielder George Otero hit his first career home run in the fourth inning to contribute to FSU’s campaign. Second baseman Brooks Badeaux had a season-high three hits and an RBI as well.

Lefthander Kyle MacIver (2-1) surrendered nine runs on eight hits in the loss for Charleston Southern.

It is the first time that Florida State has posted back-to-back shutouts since April 23 & 24, 1994, against Furman (8-0, 15-0).
