Florida State women’s basketball head coach Sue Semrau has announced that Christian Hunnicutt, a 5-10 guard out of Jonesboro, Ga., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seminoles in 2007-08. Hunnicutt, who holds a 3.63 grade point average at Landmark Christian in Fairburn, Ga., joins 5-7 guard Courtney Ward, who signed with FSU in the fall.
Hunnicutt averaged 20.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.8 assists per game and earned All City Life/South Metro Girls’ Player of the Year and All-Region honors. A two-time GACA All-State First Team selection, Hunnicutt was selected to the Georgia High School Association’s All-Star Team and was a member of the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s “Top 20 All-Star Team.”
“Christian is a great fit for our program,” Semrau said. “She is talented, driven and has great character. I believe she will develop into a tremendous college player all the while focusing on the chemistry of our team. She is a player who flew under the radar because she did not play summer ball. She and her family will be a great asset to our Seminole family.”
With Hunnicutt’s help, the Landmark Christian War Eagles recorded a school record 21 wins in 2007. Landmark Christian, coached by GACA Region 5-A Coach of the Year Jim Waller, was the Girls’ Basketball Region 5-A Champion.
Some of Hunnicutt’s additional accolades include Most Valuable Player at the Heritage Bank Classic, the Atlanta Tip Off Club Southwest-Metro Player of the Month and being selected the Most Valuable Player of her high school team the last seasons.
The Seminoles return nine players from last year’s squad that went 24-10 and made the program’s first NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance.
