Tallahassee, Fla. – Five Florida State track and field team members head to Clemson, S.C. for the Clemson Heptathlon/Pentathlon Championships taking place from Friday, January 27 to Saturday January 28, 2006. Senior All-ACC pentathlete Deanna Lane (Marietta, Ga./Pope) leads the group through the two-day competition.
At last year’s meet, then-freshman Matt Frith (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) took ninth place in the heptathlon event with 4,604 points. Competing unattached, rookie Javier Garcia-Tunon (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) finished seventh with 4,663 points.
Lane, teammates sophomore Heather Leblanc (Live Oak, Fla./Suwannee) and freshman Shannon Stuckman (Gainesville, Fla./PK Yonge Laboratory), open the women’s competition at 12:30 p.m. with the 60m hurdles. The high jump kicks off at 1:20 p.m. followed by a 3:20 p.m. start to the shot put, 4:15 p.m. tilt to the long jump and concludes with the running of the 800m at 5:15 p.m.
On the men’s side, the 60m is set for 12:45 p.m. and the long jump slated for 1:25 p.m. The day rounds out with the shot put at 2:25 p.m. and the high jump at 3:25 p.m.
Continuing on Saturday, the men compete in the 60m hurdles at 11:00 a.m., the pole vault at noon and the 1000m run at 2:20 p.m.
