Clint Bowles Advances To Final Round Of Qualifying At All-American Championships

Oct. 7, 2008

TULSA, Okla.  – It was not the type of weather Clint Bowles is used to playing in, but the Seminole sophomore persevered through a wet and windy Tuesday to advance to the last round of qualifying at the D’Novo All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

The playing conditions were the hardest I’ve ever played in,” Bowles said.  “I just fought through it and realized [the weather] is not going to be perfect all the time.”

“It was really a hard day to play it was windy and misting the whole time,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.  “I was proud of Clint for staying positive and he came out stronger in the second set.  He was tougher and he changed his strategy.”

The 47th-ranked Bowles had difficulty adjusting to the weather in the first set and quickly dropped the first three games to Clemson’s Rok Bizjak who went on to win the first set 6-4.  However, in the second and third sets Bowles came to the net more and dominated the rest of the match winning the final two sets 6-1, 6-2.

I mostly just changed my mentality,” Bowles said.  “I came into the net a little more and that won me a lot of important points.”

“He was Clemson’s best player who played No. 1 for them a lot last year,” Hultquist said.  “He’s a good player who is consistent and moves well so it was a very good win.”

Bowles will play New Mexico’s Graeme Kassautzki on Wednesday for the right to play in the main draw of the All-American Championships.  For results log onto www.seminoles.com
