GREENSBORO, N.C.- Florida State’s Clint Bowles has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after notching a key win to give No. 16 Florida State a hard-fought 4-3 victory against 22nd-ranked Pepperdine last week.

“I was really proud of how Clint [Bowles] came through,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.” “He was tired and cramping and he held it together to play a great match against a great player.”

A freshman from Tampa, Fla., Bowles went undefeated on the week in singles and doubles action to earn his first league recognition of the season. His upset victory over Pepperdine’s 22nd-ranked Bassam Beidas 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(2) at the No. 2 spot clinched the match for Florida State. Bowles was down 6-5 in the third set two points away from losing we he rallied back to send the match to a deciding tiebreaker. Bowles quickly went up 4-0 and cruised to a 7-2 tiebreaker victory that gave Florida State the match.

Bowles also paired up with teammate Jean-Yves Aubone as the No. 26 ranked duo in the country. The tandem knotted the doubles point in a tiebreaker against Pepperdine’s Andreas Begemann and Rikus De Villiers, defeating the Waves’ twosome 9-8 (5) at the top position.

“I think he has played really good tennis this year,” Hultquist said. “I love how he competes and I think we anticipated that he would be a great player and sure enough he is showing that he is.”
