Coastal Carolina Maintains Team Lead At Seminole Intercollegiate

March 7, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Coastal Carolina men’s golf team maintained its team lead and expanded its advantage to eight strokes over UCF and Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State took over sole possession of first place in the individual standings as second round play at the Seminole Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Golden Eagle Country Club was played on a beautiful Tallahassee day.

Coastal Carolina carded the best team round for the second consecutive round and is at even par in the team standings after 36 holes of play. The Chanticleers turned in a total of 285 – six strokes better than their top team round in Sunday’s first round. A trio of Coastal players – Moises Cobo (tied for fifth), Lindsay Renolds (tied for fifth) and Brad Robinson (tied for seventh) – are all in the top 10 of the individual standings.

Davies continued to blister the course as he carded a five-under par score of 67 in the second round. Couple with his three-under par 69 in the first round, Davies is eight under par for the tournament. He holds a four stoke lead over Andreas Hoegberg of UCF and Kevin O’Connell of Virginia.

A total of 11 of the 66 players in the tournament are at or under par after the first 36 holes of the event.

Florida State, the host team, improved its team standing by four positions and is in fourth place heading into Tuesday’s third and final round. The Seminoles are only two strokes behind Vanderbilt who is currently in third place in the team standings.

The Seminoles are led by sophomore Torstein Nevestad who is in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings. Nevestad is at one-over par with a 145 total for the first two rounds.

A pair of Seminoles – Jake Davis (tied for 7th, one-under par) and Tommy Rymer (tied for 9th, even par) – are in the top 10 in the individual standings. Both Davis and Rymer are playing as individuals and their score does not count towards the Seminoles’ team total.

Kellen Altman of the College of Charleston carded a hole-in-one on the par three third hole. He finished the day with a four-under par 68 and is in a tied for 12th place in the individual standings. Altman carded a 77 in the first round.

The final round of the event begins at 7:30 Tuesday morning.
