Conference Finale Between FSU Softball And Terps Canceled Due To Weather

May 2, 2002

College Park, MD –
Tuesday’s final ACC softball games between No. 21 Florida State and Maryland were canceled due to field conditions and impending inclement weather. Tornado warnings in the area today and an overnight storm left Maryland’s new softball complex unplayable. The games will not be made up as they had no bearing on the final standings. The cancellation ended FSU chance at finishing conference play 8-0, which would have been a first in league history.

The ACC Softball Championship seedings are now set for next weekend’s conference tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. The Seminoles (45-14, 6-0) secured their ninth regular season title in 11 seasons with their sweep over Virginia Tuesday and hold the No. 1 seed. They will face the winner of the game between No. 4 North Carolina (31-28, 2-6) and No. 5 Virginia (44-20, 1-6), which is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. The 2 vs. 3 game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. and features second-seeded Georgia Tech (46-16, 6-2) and third-seeded Maryland (31-19, 2-3). Florida State takes on the Virginia/North Carolina winner at 7:00 p.m.
