Nov. 7, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.Temperatures in Blacksburg this weekend are expected to peak around 50 degrees so Wednesday’s first practice of the season with a real chill in the air may have been just what the doctor ordered. The Seminoles worked out for 20 periods in uppers and most of the players were in sweat pants as the team continued to prep for its first game in Blacksburg, VA since 1989. FSU head coach Bobby Bowden announced that this would be a “Sod Cemetery Game’.

Coach Bowden Quotes

On the similarities between Florida State and Virginia Tech:

“It’s a pretty good match up. I think they’re probably the best team we’ve played. It’s the best defense we’ve seen.”

On Virginia Tech’s defense:

“They’ve got a lot of starters back from last year, quite a few seniors over there. They know what they’re doing and they play hard.”

On from going up against Boston College‘s offense to Virginia Tech’s defense:

“They’ve had some games where they’ve put some points up there. They got 41 on Clemson and 27 on (Georgia) Tech the other day. They’ve got a dangerous offense. We don’t know which quarterback they’ll go with. We’ve just got to be prepared to see both quarterbacks.”

On playing back-to-back ranked teams on the road:
“You don’t get that very often. Usually if you do, you have one at home, one away, something like that.”

On playing in Blacksburg:

“When I was an assistant at Florida State we played up there in ’64 and lost the only game we lost that year. Of course when I was at West Virginia we played them every year, every other year in Blacksburg. I’ve got a lot of memories of the place because we played up there so many times.”

On how tough it is to play at Lane Stadium:

“A lot of times it’s based on the enthusiasm of the crowd; they are a very enthusiastic group. They’re a team that the crowd follows good to bowls; that’s why they like to have them in bowls, they know they are going to bring a lot of fans. They have a lot of spirit up there and they play hard. They have a good coaching staff and they’re just always good.”
