TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida State senior left fielder Danielle Cox made FSU
softball history when she became the first Seminole softball player to be
selected to participate in the Coca-Cola USA Softball National Team
Festival in Fresno, California this summer. Cox is among 50 of the
nation’s finest women’s fast pitch softball players, which also includes
the members of the 1998 World Championship team, chosen to participate in
the festival, June 8-14.
Cox, who earned first team ASA All-American honors this summer, will
compete for a spot on the 1999 USA Softball Women’s National Team. Those
selected will also compete in the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg. Ten
members of the team have already been chosen while the remaining five will
be determined at the Festival.
The senior from Anniston, Alabama, broke the Women’s Major ASA 22-year
batting record with her .688 average this summer at the national
Cox was one of only two players to start all 72 games for the Lady
Seminoles last year. She had 53 hits, 21 steals and led the team with four
triples. She is a transfer from Gulf Coast Community College where she was
named an All-American her freshman year.
