Player of the week
Sarah had a great weekend. Her performance Friday was probably as about as good as it gets for a goalkeeper. It was probably one of her best games of the year. She made great decisions and read the game very well. Before halftime she came up with two or three saves that kept us in the game. Once we went up 2-1 she made two or three more saves that preserved the win. I was very happy for her because that game was a huge confidence booster. Collectively, for Sarah and the defense, the shutout against a quality opponent like Oregon was a big boost. Her performance this past weekend should fuel her coming into a big stretch of games.
Rookie of the Week
Emma had another great weekend. She scored all three of our goals on the road last weekend against two Pac 10 opponents. She is really coming into her own. She’s getting herself in the right place at the right time and scoring some important goals for our team. Her first goal against Oregon State really gave us a momentum boost. Then she followed up with the eventual game winner. A lot of people look at Emma and only see her scoring but her work rate on and off of the ball is just incredible. Her ability to defend and chase down players was evident, even late in the game against Oregon State and Oregon. It’s phenomenal how hard she works even late in a game when were up a goal. Her ability to keep possession of the ball is so important to us. We are also starting to see that she is going to score for us on a regular basis. We’re excited about her performances this past weekend and we are excited about her continuing development.
