TUSCALOOSA, ALA.,– The Florida State men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to take the stage Saturday morning in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at the Harry Pritchett Golf Course. Hosting the tournament will be the Alabama Crimson Tide. The NCAA Regional Championships will begin at 9:45 for the women, with the men’s race getting underway at 11:00 a.m.
Freshman Amy Plekaitis, who has led the Lady Seminoles in every race of the season, looks to continue her bout of success as the women strive to hold on to their second place ranking. As Plekaitis looks once again for a great race, the Lady Seminoles will be concentrating on the rankings. If the women can hold on to their Region ranking of second place they will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships being held in Ames, Iowa November 20th. Brooke Bastien also hopes to make an impressive showing at the Championships Saturday, Bastien has placed second for the Noles in each meet she has entered this season. Along with Plekaitis and Batsien th Lady Seminoles will be sending senior Cynthia Campbell, sophomores Andrea Dulmage, Misty Harper, and Katie Jeffrey, along with freshman Beth Lukens, and junior Kim Winn.
The Seminoles will be looking to sophomore Nick Stuart to once again set the pace of Saturdays race. Stuart has come out strong for the Seminoles this season and became the unexpected leader of this year’s team after senior Josh Ware was forced to sit out the season due to injuries. Stuart plans to finish the season on a high note at the NCAA Championships. Accompanying Stuart will be teammates Ryan Atkins, Dan Clark, Brian Flieshman, Danny Fritz, Dave Geurra, Ryan Hicks and Eric Ritchson.
