TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State cross country team opened their 2000 season today at the Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C. The men came out strong finishing in third place, as the women started their season with a fourth place finish.
In the men’s 8K event, Nick Stuart, Josh Ware, Ryan Hicks, and Brian Flieshmann led the Seminoles to a third place finish, all with top 20 finishes. Sophomore Stuart started out strong and finished first for the Noles coming in fifth place with a time of 26:01. Coming in second for the Seminoles was senior Ware who also proved to be another leader for the Seminoles finishing seventh with a time of 26:10. Returning sophomore Hicks placed 13th with a time of 26:27, and Flieshmann finished 19th with a time of 26:47. All of the men finished out the day in the top 50. Freshman James Van Veen (27th-27:02), Dan Clark (29th-27:06), Eric Richson (33rd-27:14), Aaron Caruso (34th-27:15), Danny Fritz (37th-27:20), and Ryan Atkins (41st-27:35).
FSU’s freshman Amy Pleckaitis finished in first place leading the way for the Lady Noles finishing with a time of 18:10. Only eight seconds behind was junior Brooke Bastien coming in second with a time of 18:18. Finishing in the top five for Florida State was sophomore Kim Winn in 23rd place with a time of 19:10, senior Cynthia Campbell (24th-19:11), and freshman Beth Lukens (31st-19:27). All of the Lady Noles stayed in the top 40 at the competition. The next three finishers for FSU were Andrea Dulmage (33rd-19:28), Katie Jeffrey (37th-19:44), and Lauren Beaulieu (40th-19:49)
The Seminoles B team will be in Gainesville Fla., Thursday September 7th to compete in the Nike Twi-Light.
