TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Associate Coach Nick Crowell is teaming up with former Florida State men’s tennis player Ty Braswell to play in the doubles main draw of the 2011 USTA Sarasota Open, part of the ATP Challenger Tour. The duo will play tomorrow against Rik de Voest and Izak van der Merwe of Russia at 5:00 pm.
Crowell last played in a profession tournament in 2004, which was the first year he began coaching at Florida State. Braswell was the assistant coach at Florida State before Crowell from 2001-2003. Before that he was a member of the team from 1996-1999.
“Coming back and getting to play with Ty, a former Seminole great, is exciting,” said Crowell. “We’ve know each other since juniors so it will be like we are reuniting. It’s going to be really fun.”
De Voest and van der Merwe are the No. 1 seed of the tournament and ranked No. 255 in the world. Crowell and Braswell are entering as a wild card entry.
