Crowley and Connolly Named to TDS Team of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Leading the Florida State soccer program to its fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship over the weekend, redshirt senior Kirsten Crowley and sophomore Megan Connolly were recognized on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. It is the second time this season and the fourth time in her career that Crowley has been named to the TDS Team of the Week.

Connolly earned her first weekly national honor of the season and increased her career total to five, after being named to the TDS Team of the Week four times as a freshman in 2015.

Crowley and the FSU defense recorded 200 minutes of shutout soccer en route to the ACC title, keeping No. 9 Clemson and No. 10 North Carolina out of the net and increasing the Seminole clean sheet total to 14 on the season. The Noles are second in the nation with a 0.336 goals against average and only Northwestern (6) has allowed fewer goals this season than Florida State’s seven.

Connolly scored the game-winner in FSU’s ACC semifinal victory over Clemson, heading home a ball inside the six-yard box in the fourth minute to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead. Kaycie Tillman started the scoring chance, chipping a ball into Malia Berkely near the penalty spot and Berkely was able to head it over CU goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan to a waiting Connolly. It was her sixth goal of the season, tying her with freshman Deyna Castellanos for the team lead in goals scored this season.

The duo, along with the rest of the FSU soccer team, will open the 2016 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship this weekend at the Seminole Soccer Complex with a first round match against Samford on Saturday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available now – $8 for adults; $3 for students, seniors (50+) and children (6-18 years old; $1 for children 5 and under; and the first 100 FSU students (with valid ID) will get in free.
