April 3, 2004

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. –
Florida State University senior Alison Curdt moved into a tie for eighth place in the individual standings and the Seminoles are in fourth place in the team standings after two rounds of the Ryder/Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Club and Resort. Curdt carded a four-over par 76 Saturday and is only four strokes out of the individual lead which is held by Urlika Ljungman of Rollins and Camilla Hilland of the University of Miami.

Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Seminoles during day two of the event with a team-low score of 76 and has a 36-hole total of 154. She trails the co-leaders by only four strokes. Curdt, who has not finished better than 40th in any of the Seminoles’ first three tournaments of the spring season, is looking to earn her best finish since finishing fourth at the University of Alabama Invitational during the fall of 2003.

Sophomore Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) continued to play well as is in a tie for 12th place after two rounds with a total of 156. She has carded identical scores of 78 of the first two rounds of the tournament. Larsson is tied with teammate Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) who carded a 77 in the second round. Quinney finished in third place in the individual standings at last week’s Liz Murphey/University of Georgia Collegiate Classic.

Freshman Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) and junior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla.) played well for the Seminoles and both improved their scores in the second round as compared to the first round of the tournament. Burch improved her score by strokes and Johnson by an incredible 14 strokes.

Rollins leads the event by six strokes over South Florida and Miami. Rollins has a two-day total of 611 while the Bulls and the Hurricanes are tied with identical scores of 617.

The final round, a shotgun start, begins at 8 a.m. Sunday.
