Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State sophomore defensive tackle Darnell Dockett had an MRI on his left knee Thursday to determine the severity of an injury he suffered in the final minute of the Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech. The MRI revealed a partial distal quadriceps tear as well as a joint surface fracture and a sprain of the lateral collateral ligament. There may also be additional ligament damage. Dockett returned home to Maryland immediately after the Gator Bowl and had the MRI done there. More information will be available after arthroscopic surgery is performed on Friday, January 11 in Tallahassee.
Dockett was a first team All-ACC selection in 2001 after starting all 12 games for the Seminoles. He set a Florida State single season record with 22 tackles for loss and led the team with 19 quarterback hurries. Dockett’s 68 tackles were tops among all FSU defensive linemen.
