Dave Schmidt is entering his first year with the Florida State Sports Information Department as the primary contact for women’s basketball, track & field and cross country. His day-to-day duties include composing weekly releases, compiling game notes, maintaining team and individual statistics and other superlatives and writing feature stories on Seminole student-athletes. He also coordinates interviews with national and local members of the media.
Schmidt comes to Florida State after spending two years as an athletic communications assistant at the University of North Carolina. While at UNC, Schmidt was the primary media contact for the Tar Heel volleyball, softball, track & field and cross country squads. Schmidt also provided assistance as the secondary women’s basketball contact along with additional assistance with the football and men’s basketball teams. He also served as sideline liaison during home football games while at Carolina.
In 2005, Schmidt earned his bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations with an emphasis in public relations from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. During the final two years of his undergraduate career, Schmidt served as a student assistant in the GVSU Sports Information Department. Following graduation he moved into a graduate assistant position at Grand Valley serving as the primary contact for the women’s soccer and baseball teams, while assisting with men’s basketball and football. In addition to his work in the GVSU Sports Information Department, Schmidt also served as a statistician at the Motor City Bowl in Detroit, Mich. from 2004-06.
Schmidt is a native of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. and currently resides in Tallahassee.
