Davis Becomes Fourth ACC POW for Noles

Jan. 28, 2013

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After leading the No. 20-ranked Florida State women’s basketball team to a pair of victories last week, senior forward Chelsea Davis captured ACC Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Davis becomes the fourth different Seminole to capture the award this season, joining junior forward Natasha Howard (Nov. 19) and senior guards Leonor Rodriguez (Nov. 26) and Alexa Deluzio (Dec. 31).

It’s just the third time in ACC history that four different players on a single team have each earned the conference player of the week award in a season, dating back to the honor’s creation in 1983. The 2012-13 Seminoles join the 2007-08 Maryland and 2004-05 Duke squads in accomplishing the feat.

Davis was a dominant interior presence for a Seminole team that won two games in three days over the weekend. She averaged 21 points, six rebounds and 2.5 blocks while shooting 68 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the line in wins over Georgia Tech (76-71) on Friday and Virginia Tech (70-56) on Sunday.

Davis scored 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting versus the Yellow Jackets and tallied 19 points on 7-of-12 in a career-best 32 minutes against the Hokies.

The 6-2 senior from Middletown, Del., is averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the line for the 17-3 Seminoles.

In nine conference-only games, Davis is shooting a league-best 60.9 percent.

FSU moves up to No. 20 in AP Top 25 Poll.

Florida State moved up two spots to No. 20 in Monday’s Associate Press Poll. The Seminoles have been ranked by the AP for seven straight weeks now. FSU travels to Chapel Hill on Thursday for a showdown with No. 11 North Carolina at 7 p.m.
