OMAHA, Neb. – Two Seminoles posted solid swims on day four at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Mark Weber made his debut in the 100 free, while Elizabeth Pepper finished her meet with the 200 fly.

In his first event in Omaha, Weber posted a time of 51.49, just off his best time of which he set back in May of 51.34.He will swim his final and strongest event in the 50 free on Saturday.

Pepper posted a 2:15.18 in the 200 fly en route to touching first in heat eight and 44th place overall, while representing Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club. Her fastest in the race was set back in 2010, when she posted a 2:14.99 at Nationals.

Also competing in the 200 fly was future Seminoles and SwimAtlanta’s Mary Elizabeth King, who swam a 2:19.22.

Mark Weber talks about his first race, the 100 free.
On Wednesday, I spent it relaxing and getting ready for my 100 freestyle today. I swam early on Wednesday morning and skipped the prelims session to nap and go to lunch with my family at a great place in the old town district of Omaha. Finals were exciting once again last night with Phelps touching out Lochte in the 200 free and Matt Grevers nearly knocking down the world record in the 100 backstroke. This morning started with a 6:30am wake up swim followed by breakfast and a short nap. At 8:30 I returned to the pool for my meet warm-up and race. Once I finished my warm up and put on my awesome red suit (well actually more of a bright pink, but I prefer to call it red) the men’s 100 free had already started. I rushed to get to the ready room and get my cap and goggles on before they paraded us onto the deck. Everything went so fast I wasn’t able to calm myself down, focus, and think about what I was about to do. I just jumped in and raced. In the end I was disappointed with the result but it was good to get in and race in that environment. Now I know what to expect for my biggest event, the 50 free, on Saturday and I will use the experience from this morning to help prepare myself for the big race.
