Day One Wraps Up At Snowbird Invitational On Friday

Tallahassee, FL – The first day of the Snowbird Invitational hosted by Florida State at the Mike Long Track Facility wrapped up on Friday evening.

Senior Sarah Reed (Punta Gorda, FL/Illinois), who does not have indoor eligibility, gets ready for the outdoor season and places first in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.70m/159’9″. Freshman Chalencia Seay (Polk County, FL/Auburndale) competed unattached and was the runner-up in the hammer with her throw of 38.93m/127’8″.

In the women’s long jump, freshman Valerie Flournoy (Gainesville, FL/PK Yonge DRS) jumped a collegiate best 5.81m/19’7″ for second place. In third was junior Heather Leblanc (Live Oak, FL/Suwannee) with a personal best jump of 5.74m/18’9″ and just behind in sixth was fellow junior Charlene Walker (Orlando, FL/Edgewater) with a 5.39m/17’8″ leap.

Sophomore Quiana Holsey (Gainesville, FL/Gainesville) ran a 1:04.21, just shy of a regional qualifying mark, in the women’s 400m hurdles to finish first.

In the women’s javelin, freshman Erin Simmons (Argyle, TX/Argyle) threw a personal best 22.99m/75’5″, good for second place.

The women’s team ran 16 in the 5,000m run and four placed in the top ten. Finishing in fifth, sixth, and seventh were sophomore Christina Woytalewicz (Brandon, FL/Riverview) in 17:41.63, freshman Pilar McShine (Trinidad and Tobago/Success Laventille Composite) in 17:51.45, and junior Meredith Urban (Davie, FL/Green Hope) in 17:51.45, respectively. Rounding out the top ten for the Seminoles was sophomore Amanda Hahn (Gainesville, FL/Gainesville) in tenth place with a mark of 18:23.95. Running unattached, juniors Audrey Hand (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam) clocked in at 17:85.22 to place third and Shannon Coates (Delray Beach, FL/Spanish River) finished eighth in 17:59.67.

On the men’s side, sophomore Javier Garcia-Tunon (Miami, FL/Belen Jesuit) was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.38. Also competing unattached in the men’s 400m hurdles were redshirt freshman Mike Fingado (Lake Orion, MI/Lake Orion) in 56.26 for third and right behind in fourth place was sophomore Michael Snowden (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) in a time of 56.48.

Sophomore Alvaro Bada (Punta Gorda, FL/Charlotte) compete unattached and threw 37.39m/122’8″ to place third in the men’s discus and junior Matt Frith (Jacksonville, FL/Bolles) placed eighth in the long jump with a 6.42m/21’0.75″ leap.

Florida State ran three men unattached in the 5,000m run. Freshman Steeve Gabart (Miami, FL) was the first Seminole across the line in 14:39.12 for second followed closely by redshirt freshmen Trey Andrews (Titusville, FL/Astronaut) in third with a 14:41.93 clock and Tony Krock (Avilla, IN/East Noble) in 15:01.82 for tenth place.
