TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida State men’s tennis team continued the qualifying draw of the Tallahassee Futures Tournament presented by Visit Tallahassee as associate head coach Ryler DeHeart advanced to the next round on Sunday.
DeHeart defeated Justin Roberts (Bahamas) 6-1, 6-3. He will play Cameron Silverman (USA) at 10:00 a.m. Monday for a chance to qualify for Tuesday’s main draw.
Junior Terrell Whitehurst and freshman Alex Knaff each fought hard in three set matches but fell. Whitehurst lost 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-1 while Knaff fell 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1.
“I was very proud of the way Terrell and Alex competed today against ATP professional players,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “It was great to see Terrell play well coming off of injury and Alex looked strong today as well.”
The 64-player qualifying draw will conclude on Monday at 10:00 a.m., with eight of those players advancing to the 32-player main draw to begin Tuesday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free for fans throughout the event.
The finals will take place on December 10 (doubles) and December 11 (singles). All matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Facility at 2566 Pottsdamer Rd., Tallahassee, Fla., 32310.
