Do you have any phobias?
I’m claustrophobic in small spaces especially in crowded elevators.

What’s your motto in life?
If you don’t think you’re the best in what you do then you shouldn’t be doing it.

Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at?
I’m good at helping friends with their problems which is random and I’m kind of good at Scramble with Friends.

Who had the biggest influence on your athletic career?
I’d have to say my big brothers. They both started playing sports early on and that’s what got me into them. They were just motivating and they both made it into the professional level in baseball. Anything that has to do with athletics I can talk to them about and it’s really helpful.

What do you think is your strongest athletic attribute?
Usually the taller you are the slower you run but I’m quick for how tall I am.

Best non-athletic talent?
I can bend my fingers all the way back which isn’t really a talent but it’s something I can do and not everyone else can.

What would you say will be the strength of the team this season?
Definitely our team chemistry is very strong this year. We have six freshmen and they’ve all been good personality wise and they’re hard working and that helps a lot and they do what they’re expected to do.

My family has always called me Malzy.

Because of the strong athletic program and its location.

I like the strong football tradition. Everything about football games is my favorite part.

What is your earliest memory of playing volleyball?
I was 14 when I started playing and I hit a coach right in the head when he was walking on the other side of the net.

The biggest difference of indoor and outdoor volleyball is sand of course, but can you tell me what are some other differences?
The fact that there’s only two other people on the court means that you’re engaged in every play no matter what and that’s different from indoor because sometimes you don’t even touch the ball. Also a big difference is strategy, out here you pick up on strengths and weaknesses and you try to capitalize on weaknesses.

What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions about sand volleyball?
That it’s easy. People think it’s all about hitting the ball back and forth if they don’t know the sport.

What would be your perfect sand volleyball soundtrack?
A mix of Hip Hop, Country and Modern Electro.

Name three things you cannot live without
My family, my best friends and chapstick.

How do you spend your free time?
Away from volleyball I just like to relax, and just do things with my friends and hang out. Anything not physical is good for me.

My cell phone.

What is one daily activity that bores you?
I hate reading, it puts me to sleep.

Late morning.

All you can do is your best.
