TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The opening night of the Seminole Invite featured several distance events and saw a trio of women’s distance runners control the 3,000m run. Pilar McShine captured the event in 9:18.29 setting a new personal best in the process.
Also in action on the track for the women Friday night were Kara Taylor (18:11.17), Kacey Gibson (18:20.21), Lauren Switzer (18:45.20) and Mary Catharine Fleming (19:12.87) who all ran the 5000m. Taylor and Gibson battled for the top spot most of the race before Taylor pulled away late for the win.
In the women’s field events Kimberly Williams opened up her outdoor season with a win in the long jump as the junior cleared 19-5.5, while heptathlete Sarah Mackey placed seventh with a top jump of 17-6.25. Michelle Cullum and Margo Zwerling both cleared 5-0.25 in the high jump, while Erin Simmons (117-9), Amber Cornell (106-6) and Mackey (94-9) all competed in the javelin.
Bryan Howard captured the men’s javelin throw as the Warminster, Pa., native recorded a top throw of 207-8 to take the top spot. Collin Lomagistro placed fourth in the javelin with a top throw of 131-5.
Action gets under way at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the hammer throw, while track events begin at 1 p.m.
