Round One ResultsRound Two Tee Times

NORMAN, Okla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State sophomore Amanda Doherty carded her first collegiate hole-in-one and is in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings, and the Seminole women’s golf team is in 10th place in the team standings after the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club.  Doherty carded her hole-in-one on the par 3 hole No. 17 as she carded an even par 71 in the first round of the tournament.  Doherty and teammate Morgane Metraux are the Seminoles’ leaders in the individual standings with identical scores of 71.

No. 6 Oklahoma is the team leader after the first round as the Sooners shot a 7-under par team score of 277 to assume the team lead heading into the second round.  Emma Albrecht of Notre Dame, Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M, Alice Hewson of Clemson and Kaitlin Milligan of Oklahoma are all tied for first in the individual standings with scores of 4-under par 67.

With two rounds and 36 holes remaining to be played, No. 20 Florida State is looking to become the first back-to-back team champion in the five-year history of the event.  Florida State’s Morgan Metraux is also looking to become the first two-time individual winner of the event after winning her first career collegiate title at this event in 2016.

“We made a really good comeback on the back nine,” said Head Coach Amy Bond.  “We didn’t get off to the best start but I was encouraged by how we bounced back and finished well.  We have two more rounds and 36 holes to play and can certainly put up good numbers.”

The four Seminoles whose scores counted for in the first round were a combined total of 4-strokes under par on the back nine of the course.

Doherty (Atlanta, Ga.) played a solid round of golf with her hole-in-one, one birdie and 13 more holes scored at par.  She was never more than two strokes over par and her hole-in-one on her second to last hole brought her score to even par for the round.  Doherty was 2-under par on her back nine as she contributed mightily to the Seminoles’ comeback.

Doherty’s hole-in-one was the first by a Seminole since Allison Curdt carded a hole-in-one during the second round of the NCAA Central Regional Championship on May 10, 2002.

Morgane Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) also carded an even par score of 71.  She carded a team-high five birdies including three on her back nine.  She, too, was 2-under par after the turn in finishing at par for the third time in her first four rounds of the fall season.

Freshman Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, S.C.) carded a 3-over par score of 74 and is in a tie for 42nd place in the individual standings.  She carded two birdies on her back nine and was 1-under par after the turn.  Sumner carded 13 of 18 holes at par or better in only her second career tournament.

Florida State counted a total of 10 birdies during the round to bring their season total to 54.  Bond has pledged $10 for every Seminole birdie during the fall season to help those affected by recent hurricanes that have hit the states of Florida and Texas.  Follow Bond and the Seminoles’ birdie totals on twitter at #birdiesfortxfl.

Florida State will play with Texas State and Washington in the second round with play for the Seminoles, Bobcats and Huskies beginning at 9:00 ET on hole No. 10.
