Donaldson Leads Florida State To Seventh Place Finish At Seminole Intercollegiate

March 14, 2001

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – –
Florida State senior Mark Donaldson finished in a tie for 10th place and the Seminole men’s golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the seventh annual Seminole Intercollegiate at the Golden Eagle Country Club.

Individual medalist Steve Marino led Virginia to the team championship during the three-round, 54-hole tournament. Marino was spectacular throughout the event carding three below-par scores of 70-68-67 for an 11-under par total of 205. Cavalier teammate Rusty Kennedy (73-70-70, 213) finished in a tied for third place while Cameron Yancy (78-70-73, 221, tied for 15th) and Kevin O’Connell (77-71-74, 222, tied for 19th) all posted top-20 individual finishes. Virginia was the only team in the tournament to finish with four golfers in the top-20 of the individual standings.

Donaldson (Kirkaldy, Scotland) enjoyed a strong tournament for the Seminoles with three scores of 75 or below. He finished with a three-round total of 219. Donaldson’s total was the second best of his career – rivaled by only his 215 tournament score at last year’s Seminole Intercollegiate.

Sophomore Andy Lewis (Garland, Texas) finished in a tied for 39th place as he turned in his second strong performance in as many weeks. The second-year player shot a personal tournament best 71 in the third round and carded an 11-over par 227 for the event. Lewis was followed closely by junior Rick Westbrook (Alto, Ga.) who finished in a tied for 43rd-place with a three-round total of 230.
