TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The draws for the 2011 Singles and Doubles Individual NCAA Tournament was released on Tuesday afternoon. Florida State’s Vahid Mirzadeh and Connor Smith found out where they are in the tournament bracket. Mirzadeh will begin singles play on Wednesday while he and Smith will start on Thursday.
The senior Mirzadeh (Wellington, Fla.) is competing in the Individual Tournament for the third time in his career. Currently ranked No. 25 by the ITA, he will face No. 58 Amit Inbar of UCLA. Their match is scheduled for 2:30 pm PT. Earlier in the year the pair faced off when the two teams met in February. Match play was stopped after the match was clinched but Mirzadeh was up 6-4, 5-2. Mirzadeh is 21-10 in singles this season.
“It’s gonna be different out there,” said Mirzadeh. “I’m not there with my full team playing beside one other but I’ll still have my coaches by my side and Connor in doubles. I’m really looking forward for the opportunity for singles and doubles to get started. I’ve been having a great year and will hopefully carry the momentum forward in singles and doubles. I’m just trying to end on a good note, it’s been a great season but it’s not done yet.”
In doubles play Mirzadeh and the sophomore Smith (Tampa, Fla.), who are ranked No. 13 in the nation, will face the No. 39 duo of Romain Bocaert and Lucas Viel of South Alabama on Thursday. In doubles play the ‘Noles are 19-8.
The NCAA tournament is taking place at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The school has been hosting the team championships since May 19 and it continue through May 30 at the conclusion of singles and doubles finals. Information and live stats can be found online here.
