Duke Continues Dominance At ACC/SEC Women’s Golf Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. –
Led by Elizabeth Janangelo’s tournament record score of 65 in Saturday’s second round, the No. 1 ranked Duke women’s golf team extended its team lead in the fourth annual Chrysler ACC/SEC women’s golf challenge at the Raven Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Club. The Blue Devils enter third round play with an 32 stroke lead over second place Florida. Janangelo is the individual leader after the first 36 holes with an eight under par score of 134. She is six strokes ahead of teammate Anna Grzebien.


Duke, which led Auburn by 19 strokes after the first round, extended its lead as the Blue Devils tied their own course record with a 276 for the second consecutive day. All five players Duke players are ranked within the top three of the individual standings with Janangelo in first, Grzebien in second and the Blue Devil trio of Virada Nirapathpongporn, Leigh Ann Hardin and Brittany Lang all in a tie for third place.


Janangelo enjoyed a spectacular day with seven birdies, 10 holes of par and only one hole (her first of the day) at over par. She scored a five on the par four first hole. Janangelo carded a 32 on the front nine and a 33 on the back nine. Grzebien carded an even par 71 and enters Sunday’s final round six strokes behind Janangelo. Hardin and Lang carded one-under par scores of 70 while Nirapathpongporn shot a three-over par 74.


Florida made the biggest move of the day as the Gators shot a 289 team score and moved into second place in the team standings. The Gators are led by Naree Song who shot a one-under par 70 in the second round and enters final round play in a tie for seventh place with a 142 total for the first 36 holes. Andrea Vander Lende, with a seven over par score of 149, is in a tie for 15th place.


Auburn, which shot a 297 team score in the second round, is only two strokes behind Florida entering the third round. Jennifer Head leads the Tigers with a one-under par total of 141. Head carded an even par 71 in the second round.


Florida State, the host school, enters third round play in eighth place with a two-day total of 611. Senior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) leads the Seminoles with a 36-hole total of 148 and is in a tie for 12th place. Senior Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) and sophomore Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) are in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings. Freshman Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) led the Seminoles in the second round with a three-over par score of 74.


The final round of the event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday with a shotgun start.
