TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team, behind 14 kills from sophomore Makini Thompson and 20 digs from sophomore Summer Weissing, dropped a five-game heartbreaker to the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday evening at Tully Gym.
The loss snapped a four-match win streak for the Seminoles. Duke improved to 22-7 overall and 16-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. FSU dropped to 12-17 on the season and 10-11 in the league.
After playing competitively in the first three games, Florida State lost momentum in games four and five and hit below .100. Duke took advantage of the shift in energy and won the last two contests by decisive scores of 30-19 and 15-8.
Games scores were 30-28, 23-30, 30-19, 19-30, and 8-15.
FSU hit below .100 for the first time since the Seminoles faced the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C., on Oct. 20.
Weissing inched within six digs of setting the Florida State single season dig record. She will have one last attempt on Wednesday in the Seminoles’ season finale against Wake Forest at noon.
For the Blue Devils, Carrie Demange paced the offense with 15 kills on 44 attempts.
