Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel has been selected as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week in recognition of his outstanding performance in the Seminoles 49-37 win over Clemson. Manuel, a senior, who hails from Virginia Beach, Virginia, posted a record setting performance, accounting for 380 yards passing and 102 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. The last Seminole quarterback to achieve those numbers was Charlie Ward in 1992. Ward was selected as the winner of the Maxwell Award in 1993.
For the season Manuel has rushed for 188 yards and is 69 for 94 passing for 905 yards and 8 touchdowns. He has a 73.4% completion percentage and has thrown only 1 interception.
"I'm very proud of him," FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said. "It's one game here. When you get to coach him every day, and look in his eyes and know how he works and what he does and how he thinks, he's a tremendous young man. He's a great leader for our football team."
