On February 20, 2004 Springwood Elementary School hosted their annual Jump Rope For Heart Pep-Rally supporting the American Heart Association.
Florida State Student-Athletes Ernie Sims III (Football) and Cassie McLaughlin (Volleyball) represented the ‘Noles. Sims and McLaughlin were the guests of honor and were instrumental in motivating the children. Springwood Elementary gave both Sims and McLaughlin a heroes welcome with the playing of the war chant fight song. The entire student-body of more than 600 honored the FSU athletes with the Chop.
Both student-athletes spoke about the benefits of eating healthy, exercise, and how jumping rope can be a fun part of a work-out.
Sims and McLaughlin concluded the pep-rally by showing off their jump roping skills. This was the main highlight for the children.
Springwood Elementary school will be raising money throughout next week for the American Heart Association. Jump Rope For Heart promotes the value of physical activity to elementary schoolchildren while showing them they can contribute to their community’s welfare. This is a time when children can establish the foundation for movement skills. Jump Rope For Heart is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
